How Can a Moving Company Fix a Google Business Profile That Is Not Ranking?
You type "movers near me" into your phone and your company isn't in the map pack. Two competitors you've never respected sit right there, picking up calls that should've been yours.
Most of the time, this is fixable. The cause usually comes down to a handful of problems, and you can check every one of them in an afternoon. If you'd rather hand the diagnosis to someone who does this for movers for a living, our SEO for moving companies team can take it from here.
Rule Out a Suspension First
Before you touch anything else, log into your profile and look for a warning banner. If Google suspended it, ranking isn't your problem. Access is. A suspended profile doesn't show up in search or Maps at all.
Movers get suspended for the same few reasons: a keyword-stuffed name like "Best Cheap Movers Austin" when your legal name is Smith Moving, a virtual office or P.O. box as your address, or a city where you have no physical presence.
Each one breaks Google's guidelines, and Google won't care that your last agency recommended it.
Correct the name so it matches your truck signage and your paperwork, then file the reinstatement request. Gather your business license, insurance, and photos of your branded trucks first. Google's review can take days, sometimes longer, so submit a clean request the first time. Once Google reinstates you, our guide to building a complete profile shows what a finished listing looks like.
While you're in there, confirm Google has verified the profile. Next, search your company name and phone number for duplicates, including old profiles from a previous owner or a setup you forgot about. Two profiles for one business split your signals and can trip Google's duplicate filter. Merge them or remove the extra.
Fix Your Category and Service Areas
Your primary category counts among the strongest signals you control. Movers often pick a broad or wrong one, then wonder why a competitor wins the exact search they wanted. Match yours to the job that makes you the most money, and add secondary categories only for services you actually sell. Before you edit anything, read up on the best category for movers.
Service areas work the same way. Listing every city within 100 miles won't make you rank in all of them. Google limits how many areas you can add, and distance still decides a lot. Pick the cities where you book jobs today.
And if customers never visit your warehouse or yard, hide the address and run the profile as a service-area business. Showing a location nobody can walk into invites trouble.
Make Your Business Details Match Everywhere
Pull up your profile, your website footer, Yelp, your Better Business Bureau listing, and every directory that shows your company. Compare the name, address, and phone number character by character.
"Suite 4" on one and "Ste. 4" on another looks harmless. Mismatches like that add up when Google weighs whether it can trust you.
Most movers skip this step because it's tedious. Your competitors probably did too, so fixing name and address consistency gives you an easy edge for a few hours of work.
Build Prominence Where Competitors Are Weak
Distance is the one factor you can't change. If the searcher sits closer to a competitor's address, that competitor gets a head start. So you win on everything else: reviews, photos, and the website behind the profile.
A steady flow of recent reviews tells Google and customers you're still moving people today. Reply to every one, good or bad.
Ask on the day the job finishes, while the crew is still fresh in the customer's mind. Add photos of your actual crews, trucks, and finished moves, and skip the stock shots of smiling strangers.
Then look at your website. Point the profile at a page that matches what a mover sells, with solid service and city content on it.
Thin pages can't back up a strong profile, which is why our map pack ranking service covers the site as well as the listing. A Miami phone systems client of ours already ranked well on the map, but its pages carried little content, lacked H1 tags, and hid key service pages in the footer. After we cleaned up those problems, its GeoGrid coverage grew to nearly 100% top three positions.
Give It Time, But Not Excuses
Rankings don't change overnight. In most markets you'll see traction in 30 to 60 days and serious movement by day 90. A brutal niche takes longer, and we'll say so before you sign anything.
If an agency says "give it more time" and can't explain what it changed last month, walk away. We don't bill retainers for waiting around. You only pay when you grow.
Book a Call
Every week your profile sits buried costs you jobs. Book a call with HQDM, and we'll go through it with you, name what's wrong, and say so if you don't need us.
