Does Posting on a Google Business Profile Help a Moving Company Rank
Short answer: barely, and not the way most agencies sell it.
You've probably heard the advice. Post every week, add some photos, announce a discount, and watch your Google Maps ranking climb. So you posted for three months and nothing moved. That's not a you problem. The advice got oversold.
Here's the thing. When we build local SEO for moving companies, posts sit near the bottom of the to-do list. Let me explain why, and where they still earn a spot.
What Google Says Decides Your Ranking
Google names three factors for local results: relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance measures how well your listing matches the search. Distance is how far you sit from the searcher. Prominence reflects how well known you are, built from reviews, links, and your presence across the web.
Notice what's missing. Google has never listed posts as a ranking factor. Practitioner surveys, including Whitespark's annual one, tend to put posts well below your primary category, your reviews, and your proximity.
And you can't post your way around distance. A mover two blocks from the searcher beats you for "movers near me" no matter how many offers you publish.
Your category, service areas, reviews, and photos all carry more weight. We walk through the full setup in our Google Business Profile setup guide, so start there before you touch a single post.
What Moves Rankings Instead
Google rewards the mover that looks most relevant and trustworthy for the search. The right primary category, a steady flow of reviews, and real photos of your trucks and crews all help. So does a website with a page for every service and city. Together they usually beat a profile with the fanciest posts.
Proof beats opinion, so take BryteCall, a Miami business phone company. Their map rankings were already strong, but the website was thin: missing H1 tags, orphan pages, no schema, and service pages buried in the footer.
We fixed the foundation and rebuilt the core pages. Average map rank for "VoIP for business" moved from 4.44 to 2.33, and "business phone systems" improved from 1.68 to 1.04. Read the full breakdown in BryteCall's map pack gains.
Nobody posted their way there.
The same goes for movers. A thin service page or a missing city page costs you more jobs than a quiet posting calendar ever will. Fix that first, then worry about what you publish on Maps.
Where Posts Still Pay Off
Posts work on the human reading your listing, not on the algorithm.
Someone searches "movers near me" and sees three businesses. They tap the ones that look alive. A post reading "Now booking June moves, four crews available" gives them a reason to call you instead of the mover above you. It also answers the questions they came with: are you open, are you taking jobs, and is there room for my date?
That matters because mover demand swings hard. Slow months leave trucks parked and crews idle. A post about open weekday slots or off-season rates fills that gap faster than a ranking bump ever would. If you want a number, our breakdown of how often movers should post gives you one.
There may be an indirect effect too. More calls and taps from your listing are engagement signals, and Google could read them as proof that people want to hire you. Only Google knows how much that counts. Treat it as a bonus, not a plan.
How Much Posting Is Worth Your Time
Post, but keep it cheap. One post every week or two is plenty, built around real photos from real jobs. Lead with a specific offer or available dates, point people to the call button, and skip the stock-photo "Happy Moving Day!" filler.
Pick a pace you can hold for a year. A profile that posts twice and then goes quiet looks worse than one that never posted.
Be careful with anyone who sells weekly posting as the reason you'll land in the three-pack. Ask what else is in the plan. Usually the answer is nothing, and that's smoke and mirrors. Getting into the pack takes map pack ranking work that goes far deeper than a content calendar.
Want a Straight Answer on Your Profile?
Most agencies tell you what you want to hear. We'd rather tell you what's true. If posting is holding your profile back, we'll say so. Something else? We'll say that too. Either way, you only pay when you grow. Book a call with us and we'll give you a straight read on your profile.
